Colored Pencils in Guyana
This January, during our Peace Corps PDM (Project
Development and Management) training, my fellow volunteers and I had the
pleasure of meeting Hannah and Rachel from the Colored Pencil Project. The
Colored Pencil Project is a wonderful non-profit organization that organizes
art workshops for children all over the world. These workshops give children
the opportunity to express themselves through art (which many of them rarely
get to do) by creating self-portraits as well as drawings of their view of the
world. Hannah and Rachel trained us on how to facilitate these workshops with the
children in our own communities and provided
each of us volunteers with up to 65 packages (!) of donated colored pencils that we could
then give to the children. So, when the art workshop is completed the kids get
to leave with their wonderful self-portraits, their very own set of colored
pencils and a big smile. Over the last few weeks, I shared the colored pencil
project with all of the students at my school and it was a big success. A big
thank you to the Colored Pencil Project and all of those who support it!
