Vacation in Brazil III: Manaus and Lethem

Manaus, Brazil
After the jungle tour, we spent a few days in Manaus, Brazil before heading back to Guyana. Every year at this time there's a rodeo held in Lethem, a town on the border between Guyana and Brazil. Since we were passing through and had a few hours to spend there, we spent the afternoon hanging out at the rodeo!

The first thing you do after spending a few days in the jungle is go straight to a Brazilian steakhouse (which in Brazil they just call a steakhouse) and eat yourself sick on meat.

Kathrina and I got to attend a free concert in the opera house in Manaus.
For some reason, even though we're very careful with how we spend the pittance that Peace Corps pays us, all four of us purchased hats within five minutes of walking onto the rodeo grounds. I don't know why. Maybe the rodeo spirit just takes over as soon as you enter the atmosphere.

This horse is contemplating what will be expected of him in the coming hours. The landscape in this part of Guyana is arid and reminds me of the American southwest. It's interesting that it's so dry here, because the area around Lethem is surrounded by rain forest.
